Unlocking a New Era in Medical Imaging: What is Ultra-Resolution Microscopy (URM) Technology?

Imagine trying to read a book with fogged-up glasses. Traditional ultrasound technology provides valuable images, but their resolution is limited, making it harder to see the smallest structures in the body, like tiny blood vessels or subtle changes in tissues. Ultra Resolution Microscopy imaging (URM) is a novel ultrasound imaging technique that primarily relies on contrast microbubbles which can overcome the limitations of traditional ultrasound refraction limitation，allowing for a more detailed depiction of microvascular structure and flow dynamics with a spatial resolution of tens of micrometers.

URM firstly captures the echo signals with a very high temporal resolution based on ultrafast software beamforming platform.The MBs (micro bubbles) signal can be effectively separated from the tissue clutter by Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) as the clutter filter. Then, The Mbs are isolated and localized to individual point by a spatial compression algorithm. The accelerated Mbs tracking algorithm combined with probability and haemodynamics model was used to track the individual MBs point , which could achieve a good capture of the motion of MBs with different velocity in a very short time. Finally, the density and velocity information of Mbs can be achieved from the tracked Mbs movement trajectory.

Researchers have successfully applied URM in preclinical animal models and clinical pilot studies, indicating extensive clinical application prospects.
